Some guidelines for making change work. And stick.

Where do I start? Where do we start? That´s the big question, right at the beginning, once you find the courage to pursue transformation. The answer is: There are 100s of first steps. Some of which are outlined here.

 
 

  • You want to learn more and feel more confident about org transformation and change? Read Niels´ books, read his papers, watch his videos. He shares a lot of "first step" options in his speaking and writing. Become part of a public network, such as the Stoos network. Ask Niels for advice on where to find certain information, if what you are looking for is more specific.
  • You want to win over the hearts and minds of others? Use the books, the videos, the slide sets and make them available to others. Organize a "forum", an internal event. Find like-minded others and stimulate them to join the forum, to have a conversation. Use existing fora and events and put the topic on the agenda. Get help from an outside expert to advise you on possible steps.
  • You have enough influence to get going, but don´t feel confident if the results you want can be achieved? Get outside help for a meeting, presentation, or workshop: An outsider often can help you identify the right format and interventions to get going easier than insiders.
  • You have a group of interested, like-minded people, and access to some resources? Transformation doesn´t start with a bang. It starts with conversation, with clarification, with agreeing that "we need to change the organizational model, now, and together". This first agreement and the decision to invite further people into what then can be turned into a transformation process, usually requires some time, and a workshop or a little conference. Or several workshops in sequence, until you get to the people who actually can set the stage for transformation. So be prepared for talking, for winning hearts and minds through dialog. And get help to run those initial workshops.
