About Agnes

Agnes Butler happened to read the Korean version of Niels'  book, 'Un-leadership' a few weeks after its publication, in late 2011. And only a week before she intended to resign from the company she had been working at for seven years.

Reading the book, it seemed to her that Niels had somehow read her mind about what lacked in most organizations, and about what companies could be like. Agnes and Niels soon enough got in touch with each other through Twitter, and a few months later met in Germany for the first time, to discuss joint projects and activities related to leadership and transformation.

Back in Korea, Agnes set up a full week of events with Niels, including keynotes at Seoul´s 2012 International Smart Work Conference, a public seminar, as well as events with Korean speakers, and press interviews. All made possible with her network of peers and friends. That week in June 2012 was the starting-point of in Korea on organizational transformation with the  BetaCodex.  Following-up on this week of events, Agnes founded BetaLab, a Seoul-based network for organizational leadership and transformation.

Agnes Butler has been a player in the "Smart Work" movement (also known as "Result-Only Work Environment" or "New Way of Working") for a few years. She researches and consults for Smart Work, mainly within projects for the Korean government. She also became an embassador of the 'Beta Spirit' all around Korea, delivering speeches and lectures at universities and for companies. Agnes is a TEDx organizer, co-organizing the TEDxItaewon 2012 Conference with 1,000 attendees and 15 speakers and TEDxSeoul 2013.

Agnes doesn't like to define herself by job titles. She likes to think of herself as a hands-on curator of values and meaningful ideas, able of building movements from scratch, if necessary. One of her dreams is to work internationally with foreigners, serving a for bigger vision of the world of work.
