About Gerhard

 

Gerhard Wohland is a systems theorist and an organization consultant with more than 25 years of experience. He is known for his precision and clarity in writing and speaking, and for his thought leadership in observing and describing organizations as complex systems.

Gerhard and Niels first met in 2004, having discovered similarities between their uncommon approaches to systemic change and working with organizations. Since those days, they meet frequently for exchange of theoretic insights and practical experiences. They also fancy speaking jointly at conferences and seminars, and to be part of discussions or communities that deal with change, complexity and society.

Gerhard holds a Phd in physics, but even though it is true that a physical phenomenon is named after him, he soon discovered that his true interests lay elsewhere. Being a member of Germany´s “generation of ´68”, his knack for articulation, for agitation, for influencing others and for grasping complex dynamics became soon apparent. This led to a career first in software engineering, and then in consulting - after “discovering that computers are dead, but that people actually live and are thus capable of generating surprise”.

In the early 2000s, Gerhard had the opportunity to lead a research project on high performance organizations. The resulting study became an instant hit in his sphere and his subsequent work led to the development of a varied set of thinking tools. Gerhard brings these thinking tools into application in his consulting work that deals with projects, innovation and entire organization infrastructure.

Gerhard is founder of the “Institute for dynamic-robust high performance” IdH (Institut für dynamikrobuste Höchstleistung). He co-authored the book “The thinking tools of High Performers” (“Denkwerkzeuge der Höchstleister). Gerhard lives in Mainz, Germany.
