Business, markets and societies have changed. But the principles, the methods and concepts of leadership and delivery of organizational and team performance haven’t, by and large. Rigid sales quotas, fixed performance targets, allocations, individual employee assessments, so-called “pay for performance”-pay, budgets, variance analysis, autocratic decision-making and micro-management from the top – these techniques from the industrial age are still widely established standards. But are they still adequate? And if not, how can we adapt our organizational models to the ever-changing environments of the information age and do things better?

An expert with a voice and also a practitioner

 

Niels Pflaeging is the world’s leading authority on the Beyond Budgeting model, or, as it is now called, the BetaCodex. He has been part of this movement for a new organizational and leadership model since 2002, and continues to be its most passionate, active and articulate driving force.

Niels speaks, writes and advises in 4 languages – English, German, Spanish and Portuguese. Having lived in several countries, including Germany, Spain, Argentina, Brazil and the US, he thinks and acts like a global citizen. Niels feels at home in the most varied cultural spheres and handles cultural and linguistic differences with great ease.

Different than most speakers and authors, Niels takes the role of advisor, or change curator, very seriously. He frequently accompanies his consulting clients in far-reaching change assignments and also for longer periods of time, often stretching for more than one or two years. In complex initiatives, Niels always partners with colleagues from his large network of “cool friends” (see cool friend section on this website) – experienced and senior advisors like himself.

The open innovation movement on org leadership

 

In early 2008, Niels founded the BetaCodex Network, which set itself the mission of transforming organizations for sustained superior competitive success. Building upon the pioneering work of the Beyond Budgeting Round Table (BBRT), the BetaCodex Network is different than other “new leadership” movements, in that it is focused on transforming organizations, not just talking. It is open innovation and open source in nature. And it is inclusive. This network is taking the BetaCodex - or: "Beyond Budgeting", as it was formerly known - to a new level, by making it real.
